As a user, I recently had to download five different applications to figure out which service offers daily milk delivery in my area. I faced the following issues:
None of the apps allowed me to check delivery areas ahead of time.
None of the apps allowed me to check if they offered daily milk delivery for my area.
All the apps forced me to sign up and add an address before I could use them.
As a designer, I understand the business goals to capture information of any possible user who could turn into a customer. I can empathise with the workflows and see what value they are providing during the onboarding and more.
However, it's important to remember that your users use your products only as a means to perform tasks and reach their goals. Hence, the user's point of view is super important.
To consistently view your product from that point of view, consider the following methods:
Talk to at least 7 users to see what they use your product for and what they would replace it with if the main option is not available.
Understand what incentives make your users sign up and try something new.
Learn the actual "why" behind someone's decisions. Uncovering their needs or wants will be key in this stage.
